    General Summary:

    This is a sequence based introductory course to the basic ideas and techniques of art concepts, art media, art history and dimensional art. This beginning course explores the fundamentals of drawing and the elements of art (line, value, texture, and shape vs. form, perspective, and color). Students will create in a variety of media: pencil, charcoal, colored pencils, acrylics, watercolors, etc. Art 1 A/B is designed for the beginning artist who will learn about the principles and elements of art. Students will learn some basic elements of Art. Art 1 A/B will help you learn about different materials, artists from the past and their significance, and give you the opportunity to create. Art 1 A/B will work with students who have newly developed knowledge of the principles and elements of art. Art 1 A/B will extend the knowledge and allows the student to practice and to try different mediums in the process. Emphasis is placed on the elements and principles of design in both two and three-dimensional artworks. Emphasis is placed on the elements and principles of design, creativity, individual voice, exploration and problem solving.


    Method of Evaluation:

    1. Class assignments: daily warm-up activities, group activities/assignments/worksheets, independent projects/assignments/worksheets, formative assessments, unit reviews, and projects
    2. Sketch Book: individual assignments, worksheets, projects
    3. Quizzes/Exams
    4. Final Exam


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    • Ability to teach and delegate responsibility to students.
    • Ability to work independently and efficiently, exercising reasonable judgment, in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with minimal supervision.
    • Superior organizational and record keeping skills.
    • Ability to synergize with field and corporate staff to implement the educational program.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate problem solving skills, while maintaining courtesy, professionalism, and a customer service attitude.
    • Strong interpersonal relationship skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with students, parents, co-workers, and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
    • Working knowledge of MS Office and database management.


    Education and Experience:

    • Minimum BA degree or equivalent.
    • NCLB compliant California Sing Subject Teaching Credential in Art or Highly Qualified in the subject of Art.
